Do you remember blogs? Those websites on the internet where people would publish posts now and then, which are, like, longer than a Tweet? Maybe a blog post could be described as a Twitter-Thread, but as one blob of text rather than a series of Tweets. And I won’t even go into subscribing to them via RSS feeds. The web used to be wild.

Anyway, we remembered we have one of these ancient things lying around and wondered what would happen if we started writing about releases here again. So without further ado, the actual news:

Publisher Release 3.8.0 is about automating the little things. Getting rid of tiny sources of mistakes that only take a second to check but, you know, why have an item on your mental checklist when it can be automated away.

There’s the new Automatic Numbering module, which automatically fills in the episode number when creating a new episode. It looks through all your other episodes, finds the highest number, and increases it by one. Simple, but saves you a few seconds. And it comes with support for Shows, so when you select a show for the episode, the number updates accordingly.

This module is active by default for new setups. To use it in your current setup, go to Podlove > Modules, search for "Automatic Numbering" and activate it.

Next up is automatic detection of the episode duration. Now whenever a media file validates, the duration is updated as well. One less thing to worry about.

For those of you who use both Auphonic and Shows, there’s now an option to set the Auphonic Production Preset per show. So if you would like to have a different preset per show, you can do that now automatically.
